Trying something new:
There had been a posting on the local theatrical callboard for “Caucasian guys, aged late thirties to early forties” for a Public Service Announcement, and I thought to myself, “Why I am am a man from Caucasia! And I am also in my late thirties to early forties! Why not give it a shot?” So I called the number and left a message.
They called back while I was at work (with...
Things I should have gotten correct on the...
* The architect in The Fountainhead is loosely based on Frank Lloyd Wright (I’ve never read it, but should have been able to guess this).
* Polonius’ son in Hamlet is Laertes (I KNEW this one, but had a brain fart).
I DID manage to come up with both Justin Timberlake and The Lost Symbol without too much hesitation, and a few more-obscure answers as well, so it probably makes up for...
Rock Rulz! Think Good Eats, only with music instead of food. I’m sure they owe some kind of debt to The Show with Ze Frank, too.
On making an ass of myself for love.
I’ve recently been taking count of the demonstrations of love I’ve shown in the past, and thought it worthwhile to share the things that were a little more creative and inspired than the candy and flowers and champagne and poems and powerpoint presentations outlining a partner’s attributes and such that are de rigeur for romance and list a few of them here:
Once acquainted with...
Writing instead of painting
Part of today’s plans include starting to repaint the kids’ rooms, which have been painted and repainted at least two times apiece during my marriage. The boy’s will require fixing holes in the wall, too, so it’s second on the list, but it’s not a completely daunting task, at least physically.
The problem is that I don’t want to do it at all. The thought of...
Cleaning
I met with a realtor on Wednesday, and was informed that in order to sell the house I’d have to give it a THOROUGH cleaning and a lot of repainting and plenty of repairs, so yesterday I had a friend come over and we went through the kids rooms, tossing junk—broken electronics, little knick-knacks, old schoolwork and notes, stuff that never got thrown away but should have a long time...
Last stop of the night.
If you don’t count home. Memphis Roller Derby, the Playhouse on the Square alumni party, Bosco’s with friends, and The Cove with different friends make for a full evening. To an old dude like me, anyway.

Nope.

– Night - The New York Review of Books
My grandmother died of ALS when I was six or seven years old. I was told that she loved to read to me when I was very young, unfortunately, by the time I could form concrete memories of her, she had been reduced to a quadriplegic who communicated through a...

More plugging for the show we recorded this summer. It’s sorta Christmasy, I guess, in that there’s a lot of snow and it’s very awkward. Also, a funny story about somebody saving Christmas.
Lose It! Social
toldorknown:
As I have in the past, I highly recommend the iPhone app Lose It! for anyone wanting to lose or maintain weight.
I had real success with it early last year. In the latter part if the year I wiped out that progress and even lost some ground, but that’s not Lose It’s fault, it’s mine.
Anyway, I’m back at it (third try, for those keeping score at home).
Lose It! now has social...
