Divorce has curtailed my income somewhat. A few months ago I asked Citi Mortgage for a loan modification to extend the current terms and drag the payments out some, which would lower my payment by an affordable amount and give them several thousand dollars in additional interest—something I’d consider a win-win scenario, but they apparently call a laughable, pathetic attempt at maintaining some dignity, and they have no interest in my dignity, so what they offered me instead was a credit card.
I have no idea why the hell a credit card is a solution to difficulty in making mortgage payments, but apparently they just saw it as an opportunity to get me further in debt.
Later, I got their counteroffer in the mail, which was that I could lose my house, and also all the equity in my house, via some device called a “Short Mortgage.” Clearly they were only interested in screwing me over. Maybe screwing their customers over was part of the terms of their huge government bailout.
Since they weren’t willing to do anything to actually provide real assistance, I thought as a last resort prior to calling someone about selling the house, I’d try to refinance through them—they held the mortgage, it would theoretically require less paperwork and the process could be streamlined, so I went online, filled out fifteen pages of online forms involving lots of private information, and got to the last page where they asked for a credit card number so they could get $470 to process the application.
You read that right. $470 to apply for a loan.
If you work or live within a few miles of the Memphis Airport, and heard some guy shouting FUCK YOU CITI MORTGAGE this morning, that was me.
So, anyone in the market for a house? Or can recommend a lender who isn’t completely out to screw their customers?
